February 28, 2016 [version 2.7.5 released]
Here we go again. Some changes were necessary to add compatibility with Emu Loader frontend. HUH!? :)
In the future you will be able to copy games lists, favorites profiles and config files from EmuCon into Emu Loader... and run MAME software list games in Emu Loader with custom emulators straight from EmuCon. And run games from EmuCon with your selected arccade MAME executable. MAME calls them loose software. Games that are not in software lists. But enough of that now.

One big change in this version is that boxart.zip filename is no longer supported. Make sure to rename all your boxart.zip files to covers.zip (just like in MAME). You must do this manually for all your systems. EmuCon will not do that for you. I know, it's a painful job but, to maintain compatibility with Emu Loader, it must be done.
The image category title is still Box Art though. No reason to name it Covers. It doesn't make much sense.

Another change, also to be compatible with Emu Loader, you don't need to put all 3 image .zip files in game snapshot directory anymore. You can separate them (note that you can still use them in a single folder):
snap.zip in the game snapshot directory
titles.zip in the title snapshot directory
covers.zip in the boxart directory

Now, don't go crazy copying the supported EmuCon files into Emu Loader directory thinking it already works, because it doesn't. I'm still porting EmuCon features into Emu Loader and it will take quite a while before I have something to show you.

December 29, 2016 [version 2.7.4 released]
    Last release of the year!
A little update to allow .cue files be added to the games list. Also, the image entry names in sysimagefolders.ini have slightly changed to be the same as MAME's ui.ini. Emu Con will try to update your file without loosing data, but I advise you to make a backup of that file before using this new build.

You're gonna have to wait next year for more goodies... :)

December 01, 2016 [version 2.7.3 released]
New version with more goodies. :)
New hint box for images panel, support for Mednafen v0.9.39.2, file emulator_parameters[default].ini updated with correct parameters for Mednafen emulator and new reset to default parameter buttons in Emulator Setup screen.

There are some tweaks on the user interface but they are subtle and most of you will not notice.

October 18, 2016 [version 2.7.1 released]
I missed some bugs here and there.
After the big update, a new build to fix the very unstable thumbnails view. And a plus, I've created 128x128 and 68x68 system icons. They look so beautiful that will bring tears to your eyes. It took me almost a month because I also had to update most system icons for dark backgrounds. They look ugly if you select black as the games list background color.

WARNING: If you change games font (name, size) while in thumbnails view, you must restart the frontend or the thumb cell size will not repaint correctly. This is a painting bug caused by EasyListView control and there is nothing I can do to fix it. You can change games font in details view mode and then change to thumbs view.

Another great news. EmuCon can detect image types when loading them. If you have a PNG file format but filename is using a .jpg extension, the image will be loaded without crashing the fronteond! :D
JPG images are now loaded correctly.

Enough talk...

September 29, 2016 [version 2.7 released]
WOW! Look at at. After two long years, a new version of Emu Loader's little brother is out. After all the work I've done in Emu Loader, it's time to update EmuCon.
I added support for MAME and updated a couple features. You can switch favorite profiles while favorites is enabled. Your custom games list fonts are now saved in a new sysgamecustomfont.ini file. Unfortunately it wasn't possible to port settings from EmuCon.ini so you'll have to  set your custom fonts again... sorry!. This is a good change because you will not lose the game font settings on a fresh frontend install.

One big change is the cleanup of emulator_parameters[default].ini file. I removed tons of duplicates. EmuCon can do approximate filename search when looking for the emulator parameters. There's no need to have mess ROM=params and mess64 ROM=params entries for the same system. Only the first is enough.

The format of the games list files have changed again (emucon_dir\games\). EmuCon will try to update your current games list. If that fails, you'll have to re-create them all again manually.

Can you say thumbnails view mode ? Ported from Emu Loader and adapted to handle all the 65 systems supported. Both unzipped and zipped game snaps are supported. There is no tool bar icon for it. You can access view mode in the main menu.

Two new systems have been added: Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.  For Wii UI, CEMU emulator is the choice. Nintendo 3DS uses Citra.
Don't except to play games on these systems as both emulators are new and very limited.

Version 2.7 also have tons of tweaks and optimizations. I had two years to work out the bugs from v2.6 but still, I'm sure there are many things left to fix. There isn't much more features to be added in this frontend.
Make sure to check out the change log before using this new verison.

Thanks to the user Angga, EmuCon have a new icons pack, including new splash/about screens! For more details you can visit this thread in Emu Loader's forum. There's a MEGA download link at the end of the post.  Thank you for the pack Angga, great work! :)

September 27, 2014 [version 2.6 released]
How long has it been ? One year already ?
Time for one of those big updates. Lots of changes and optimizations have been made.

    To the hot stuff:
- Unicode game filenames support. View game titles like 後、バーナー(1989)(セガ)directly in the games list
(folder names, emulator filenames and zipped image filenames must still be in ANSI format)
Warning: not all emulators support loading Unicode files (see change log for more details)
- Improved multi-disk loading with a new dialog so you can change disks order
- favorites profiles, brought from Emu Loader
- hidden games list... to hide games you really don't want (MESS bios / device sets ?)
- Improvements to emulator_parameters.ini file handling
- New game data: times played, last played and total playtime
- Video preview playback. Watch a preview video of your games using a media player of your choice (external player)
- New natural sorting routine... 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 20, 21, 30 rather than the mighty ASCII 1, 10, 11, 2, 21, 3, 30
- Delete games from games list and/or game files directly from the frontend
- Modify images layouts. Assign an image category to the panel you want
- Customize main tool bar buttons
- Tons of "under the hood" fixes and tweaks
- New "dull" logo, splash screen and about screen...

You don't need to do a clean install. You current frontend settings and games lists will be converted to v2.6 format at frontend startup. But I recommend backing up your current EmuCon install, in case something goes wrong. Minimum version required to update is EmuCon v2.5.
A lot of files were changed so there won't be an updated pack this time. I recommend to delete ec_icons and images sub-folders before overwriting you current install with this new build.
To use your Unicode game files you must re-create the games list for each required system.

Surprise! Tiny update to fix an application crash, related to the games list sorting feature. I completely forgot about it! Now it works the same as Emu Loader. You can download the smaller update pack if you have v2.5 already.

Oh, some thank you notes are in order:
Stefano "Yoshi41", for the help and beta testing, specially the virtual drive feature
Jason Findley, for the help and beta testing the 7-zip feature, including beta testing of MCM Plus
... and other dudes I forgot along the way.

August 06, 2013 [version 2.5 released]
Computer emulators have invaded EmuCon! Are you crazy ??? edition. Biggest update ever ever ever ever.
So many things were changed in this project that it looks like a new one. The change log is HUGE. There are 61 systems in EmuCon now and there is room to grow a little bit more.
If you are upgrading from EmuCon v2.4.3 instead of a clean install, delete all files in emucon_dir\games\ folder, as they have changed. Not doing so, EmuCon will crash. I recommend to delete emucon_dir\ec_icons\ and emucon_dir\images\ folders to remove unused files.
I also recommend a backup of you current installation before attempting an update.

Your current settings for games folders, images folders and emulators selections will be updated to a clean install of EmuCon v2.5... if you place your configured EmuCon.ini file from EmuCon v2.4.3 in the new installation.

Go to the new Systems and Emulators section for a complete list of systems and the official supported emulators.

Important: Read the new .rtf docs in emucon_dir\docs\special_rules\ folder for details and mandatory rules regarding a few computer emulators, specially Java based emulators like JPCSP (Sony PSP) and JACE (Apple II).

For beginners... and those who just want to play games, all emulator parameters were carefully selected (and tested by me), so you won't have to do anything other than:
1. select games folders
2. select emulators executables
3. (optional) select a virtual drive application to mount disc images on a virtual drive
4. (optional) select snapshots folders... if you want a preview screenshot of your games
5. create the games list

After doing that, you can start playing games right away. Modify emulators parameters later, if you wish. :)

Enough talk, here's a summary of the hot stuff...

- Now you have four (4) emulators per system to choose from (emulators setup screen and games popup menu)
- New computer systems: Commodore Amiga, MSX / 2 / 2+ / Turbo-R, Commodore 64 / 128 / VIC-20, Apple II, Apple IIGS, Atari 800/XL,
Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, Sega SC-3000, Amstrad CPC
- New console systems: Famicon Disk System, Sega Saturn, 3DO, Amiga CD32, NEC PC-FX, Neo-Geo CD, Arcadia 2001, Philips CD-i, Virtual Boy
- New handheld systems: Sony PSPTiger game.com
- Expanded systems... for the purists:
Game Boy split in 3: Game BoyGame Boy Color and Super Game Boy
WonderSwan split in 2: WonderSwan and WonderSwan Color
Neo-Geo Pocket split in 2: Neo-Geo Pocket and Neo-Geo Pocket Color
Atari Jaguar: split in 2: Atari Jaguar and Atari Jaguar CD
- Media types expanded: cartridges, disc images, floppy disks, cassette tapes
- Added a second parameter for each media type. Useful for systems like Amiga (switch between Amiga 500 and Amiga 1200 AGA chipset)
- Games folders are now separate by media type. You must place your games of different media in different folders
- Recursive games folders scan. You don't need to add sub-folders anymore, EmuCon scan them automatically
- Cartridge type auto-detection for Atari 800 emulators (based on the file size). Read special rules file for more details
- Load games with multiple floppy disks (Amiga, Commodore 64/128/VIC-20, Atari 800/XL, Apple II/IIGS, Amstrad CPC). There are some rules that must be followed! Read special rules file for more details
- Better support for MESS / UME emulators
- Massive update to emulator_parameters.ini file. I personally tested (almost) all supported emulators to ensure working parameters
- Official support for extra virtual drive utilities: Elby Virtual CloneDrive and Alcohol 120% (parameters stored in emulator_parameters.ini)
- Emulators selections, games folders settings and images folders settings are stored in separate .ini files to avoid data loss
- 7-Zip support. Mostly for MESS / UME. Download 7z.dll or copy the same DLL from Emu Loader
- Optimizations and bug fixes everywhere

Read the change log for extensive details on what's changed in EmuCon v2.5. Have fun!
